This is, hands down, the BEST Chocolate banana cake I’ve ever had. I would call it a healthy-ish version because it has whole wheat flour which is better than regular all purpose flour. If you have doubt baking banana bread without eggs, i can tell you “This banana bread is soft, moist and rich all at the same time”
I have tried to bake Banana Bread a dozen of times but this is the one recipe which I can rely on. Whenever someone asks me the recipe, I would share the same. You can bake banana bread without chocolate flavor but my little one loves to eat chocolate version, So this egg less chocolate banana bread has become our house favorite.
Why you should follow this recipe
I am not a baker but I developed my basic baking skills few years back. I have explored a variety of ways to bake a banana bread. One, by adding yogurt with other wet ingredients directly and mixing it well. Second, by adding baking powder in the curd and then set it aside for 5 minutes and then adding it with rest of the ingredients. Third, which I have used in this recipe to make banana bread moist, is by adding vinegar in my wet ingredients. Second and third ones are the most effective ways to bake a delicious and melt in mouth cakes and breads.
Ingredients I have used for this Banana Bread
Whole Wheat Flour : In comparison to regular flour, Whole wheat flour has more nutrients. However, you need not to make any compromises with the taste of the banana bread.
Brown Sugar : Brown sugar is here to give the bread the sweetness which we always cherish in the cakes. You can use coconut sugar or jaggery powder (Shakkar) with the same amouunt of brown sugar as well.
Yogurt : It is best replacement to Eggs to add structure and texture to banana bread. You can use any neutral taste greek yoghurt or hung curd in this recipe. This would yield similar results.
Ripe Bananas : Please always use the ripest banana only to get the sweet banana flavour in the whole wheat banana bread. If you see the bananans lying on the kitchen counter which have freckles and are super spotty, Instead of throwing them into trash, make use of them and bake this banana bread. Spotty Bananas mean the bananas with high natural sugar and this will enhance the flavours of banana bread
Baking Powder, Baking Soda & Vinegar : These are the three key ingredients I always use to make my cake fluffy and moist. The combination of baking soda and vinegar aerates the batter which helps in leavening the cake. Their exact measurements I have mentioned in the recipe card. Please be carefeul to add the exact amount.
Vegetable Oil : I have used avocado oil for this recipe. You can use sunflower oil or olive oil or melted butter in your recipe. No matter what oil you use, it should have neutral taste.
There are tons of recipes but this one is an extremely easy with literally zero things to worry about. When you bake the banana bread, your house fills with its flavors. So, Happy Banana Bread Baking!!
TIPS FOR THE BEST EVER WHOLE WHEAT BANANA BREAD
- Always use the most ripe bananas to bake the banana bread or I should say the more black they are, the bette it would be.
- Sugar or jaggery powder or coconut sugar, whatever your sweetner choice, it should be finely granulated. If you think its not, then blend it once before you add with rest of the ingredients. This is mandatory for the lump free, smooth and flowy batters.
- If you are planning to add almonds or walnuts in your banana bread, roast them. They give a nice and crunchy taste to the bread.

Eggless Chocolate Banana Bread
Ingredients
Ingredients for the Banana Bread
- 3 count Over ripe Bananas
- 3/4 Cup Brown Sugar
- 1/2 cup Vegetable Oil
- 1 cup Room Temperature Milk
- 2 tsp Vinegar
- 1 tsp Vanilla Essence
- 2 Cups Whole Wheat Flour
- 1 tsp Baking Soda
- 1.5 tsp Baking Powder
- Pinch of Salt
- 2 tbsp Unsweetened Cocoa Powder
- 1/3 cup Dark Chocolate Chips
- 10 Almonds Optional
Instructions
- Take ripe bananas and mash them properly with the potato masher. Once done, add sugar, milk, vinegar, vanilla essence. Whisk it properly. The batter should be fine and smooth. Tip : You can add all these ingredients in a blender to make a fine and smooth textured batter
- now, add the dry ingredients. Put a sieve over the bowl, add whole wheat flour, baking soda, baking powder, cocoa powder, salt. Sieve all the dry ingredients.
- Mix dry and wet ingredients gently with the help of Spatula. Don't over mix.Tip : Keep your oven for the pre-heating here for about 15 min at 360 F/180 C
- When the batter is mixed, add chocolate chips and mix it again. If you are adding any nuts, you can do at this step.
- Take a baking tin, apply oil inside and line up with parchment paper. Now pour the batter in it and top with some chocolate chips or walnuts/almonds if you are adding.
- Bake in Pre-heated oven for 35-40 min at 360 F. After 35 min, put a tooth-pick inside and if it comes out clean, it refers to the complete baking of the cake and if not, bake for another 5 minutes. Do a toothpick test again to ensure the cake is ready.
- Once done, take out the cake from the oven and allow it to cool down. You can add any nut butter while serving or serve with vanilla ice cream.
